We the People: Announcing White House Petitions & How They Work Advocate Shouts For the past two years, the Federal Government has been discussing caseloads and funding of Public Defender systems across the country. Little has been done. We, along with NLADA, have written a petition requesting that the indigent defense crisis in the country be addressed. We need 25,000 signatures by 11/4/11. We want to send a message nationally that our Public Defender clients cannot continue to be the outcasts. The website set up by the Obama administration is called We The People-Petitions (Gideon Petition Specifically ) (Direct link). You have to create a log-in account, but we really need you to sign it and, yes, SEND IT OUT ON YOUR SOCIAL NETWORKS. If this petition gets 25,000 signatures by November 03, 2011, the White House will review it and respond! We the People allows anyone to create and sign petitions asking the Obama Administration to take action on a range of issues. If a petition gets enough support, the Obama Administration will issue an official response. So please click on the link above and sign the Petition. CA RSOL had great success with our October meeting in Los Angeles. The second meeting of CA RSOL will be in San Francisco on Saturday, November 12, at Unity Church, 2222 Bush Street.
