How to Create a Petition or Poll

Where can I start a Petition?: Change.org is a good place and there are others, which we will post over time, as we learn of them.

Important, the question you want folks to answer, -OR- a statement you want folks to vote on, needs to be as short as possible using power words. This is the most important part of your Petition because this gets folks involved.

The title should always be followed by a few short sentences to qualify (provide more detail) what the title, includes or excludes, if anything.

Then it is best to present some sort of CREDIBLE EVIDENCE supporting your position or question; credible evidence has to be more than a personal belief though, unless you are asking a question. Examples of evidence: Statistics, studies, papers and the like will generally suffice.

Here are a few places with other points you may want to consider: Site-1; ... Site-2 (Power Words); ... Site-3 (Emotional Aspect); ... Site-4 (Power Words); ... Site-5 (Happy, Positive, Inspiring and Empowering Words); ...

Policy to Post a Petition or Poll

General Policy on Posting Here:: Respect, respect, respect, respect! If it offends what is defined in law (i.e., Hate Crime Laws) (Defamation)(Libel And Slander), its not going to make it here.

Language is also important, you'd be surprised how many folks will simply look the other way if they feel offended by the language of a Petition. Remember, your words must be such to draw folks in, to get them to side with whatever the Petition says. You don't want to get folks mad and then expect them to side with your issue, thats not going to happen.

Spelling too is important. Now I am one of the world's worst spellers, so I use a helper, Google Toolbar 'Spell Checker' its free and takes just a minute or so to check a document (it does not check grammar though).

For now, have a great day and a better tomorrow.

Topics Wise to Avoid

Yes, there are topics wise to avoid. This is a place to discuss sex offenders, former sex offenders, sex offenses and the laws related to such.

RELIGIOUS Issues: Yes, excepting to discuss say, some recent "religious scandal, one which you might have a petition about, religious issues should be avoided. Religion is personal to folks, and everyone deserves to be respected for their personal beliefs, even if you do not agree with them. The same is true about different religions. Further, everyone should understand what the criminal justice system often mentions as "Undue Reliance on Religion" to understand why religion, really should be avoided in Petitions and Polls.

GAY and LESBIAN Issues: Again, yes, these issues also should be avoided, like religion they are personal to folks. Unless there is a way to show a specific G&L set of circumstances, HAS BROKEN a law, not speculating how it MAY BREAK a law, it is not relevant to the focus of this site (sex abuse and closely related topics).

GIRL LOVE and BOY LOVE Issues: This too, as a leaning -not as to breaking a law-, goes to personal beliefs. Unless there is a way to show a case with a set of circumstances, HAS BROKEN a law, not speculating how it MAY BREAK a law, it is not relevant to the focus of this site.

HIV Issues: Yes, I can see this might be relevant in some respect, but I do believe we should generally avoid this issue. If it needs to be raised to resolve something found in the facts of a case, AOK, but otherwise, avoid it.
Now, to those that may wish to MIS-CONSTRUE my comments above, -OR- imply, that the above represents eAdvocate's personal beliefs, you folks are SO WRONG! When writing, it is done in a neutral fashion, careful not to lean one way or the other, on anything in policy. Reasoning is simple, non judgemental is the policy of the Community Room, always respect rights of everyone (respect, respect, it goes a long way).

For now, have a great day and a better tomorrow.
